Value 

What is considered a value? 

Values are individual attitudes that motivate people to act one way or another 

They serve as a guide for human behaviour. … Some values have fundamental worth, such as love, truth, and freedom.

Other values, such as ambition, responsibility, and courage, describe traits or behaviours that are influential as means to an end.

I have been asking people this week how they measure value.

Some have said, it’s about connecting with people and finding the value in friendship.

Others have mentioned the cost against expectation for example you go to a hotel that cost £150 tonight and then you go to hotel that cost £70 tonight your expectation and how you measure the value of your stay is from the charge.  

How do we measure value as human beings? 

What kind of things do we place a value on? 

I decided to look at the following:

Self Development  –

How we can improve ourselves as human beings? 

Human values are the virtues that guide us to consider the human factor when we interact with other human beings.  

Human values are, respect, acceptance, consideration, appreciation, listening, openness, affection, empathy and love towards other human beings. 

Identifying our values and taking committed action towards our values – even when it is uncomfortable or difficult – is how we live a life of vitality, meaning, and fulfilment.  Knowing our values is important because it helps us make decisions, act, and focus on moving towards the life we want to live.

Friendship 

How do we value friendship? What maybe value in one friendship may not be value in another.   

I think it comes down to trust. A valuable friend you would trust with your life. 

Cooperation   

Cooperation refers to the act of working together to achieve set goals….  

Sharing: cooperation involves sharing responsibilities to achieve the objective.  

Commitment: Cooperation will work when people show serious determination on a goal. 

Contribution   

Contribution’ is a powerful and ever-present guiding value ‘Understanding’ and knowledge is a core competence.  So when we work in ‘Collaboration’ this turns this into a joint affair and moderates selfishness and your ‘Integrity’ brings it all together.

Balance  Our sense of balance comes from spending our time in a way that allows us to express most or all of our core values.” 

Balance involves making the time for the things that matter most to us – and minimizing those that distract from our highest goals. Values don’t just apply to “life” separate from “work” striking a balance helps you lead a happy and contented life, it ensures your growth as an individual and secures your mental peace and well being and most of all it Helps you dream bigger: By maintaining a healthy balance, you can secure your future. 

Positivity   Positive doesn’t mean being happy or agreeing all the time. What it means, what we need to do, is bring energy and enthusiasm to whatever we are doing. It means being supportive of others, being supportive of the processes we use, of everyone around us. 

Why is positivity a good value? 

People who experience frequent positivity show greater productivity and are able to engage in greater emotional self, self-control, and delay of immediate gratification. Finally, the more positivity the more sociable people become the more they can strengthen their networks 

In Business, as employees and business owners we need to know the value of ourselves, business owners need to know the value of their product, service and business goals.

Value is a fundamental root to our beings.
